Abel Hartooni

Abel Hartooni (b.1998) is an Iranian-born Armenian artist-researcher and curator currently based in Brussels. His artistic practice mainly drifts in the fluid territories of expanded painting. Drawn by his own diasporic past and material research, he explores the relationship between cultural memory, epistemic power, temporality and relation.

He was trained as a painter at Tehran school of fine arts, and later on entered Soore University. holds an Masters in Visual arts from The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Ghent (KASK). At the same institution he later on attended Postgraduate of Curatorial Studies in 2025. He also graduated from Advanced Masters for Research in Art and Design (ADMA) at Sint-Lucas Antwerp in 2026.
He is a current resident at Kult XL Ateliers in Brussels, and previoously has exhibited his work in
Montoro 12 in Brussels, Noman’s Gallery in Amsterdam ,Vleeshal Middelburg, Soo Contemporary and O gallery in Tehran, and Trefpunt in Ghent.

In addition to his artistic practice, he has co-curated several exhibitions including
DrieDee: Hatching from Scratch” at Kunsthal Mechelen (2024), “Eye Becomes Water” at Het Paviljoen (2025), “For Sometime I’ve been Standing” at Kunsthal Gent (2025) and “Setting the table” at Pilar Brussels (2025).
